Scotch Pine
(Pinus sylvestris)

Pinus sylvestris, commonly known as Scotch Pine (US) or Scots Pine (UK), is a fast-growing tree recognized for its striking flaking bark, which showcases a blend of cinnamon, orange, and reddish-brown hues in the upper sections and reddish-brown near the base. The needles are a vibrant blue-green, characteristic of the species. Native to northern Europe and northern Asia, the name "sylvestris" translates to "from the woods and forests," highlighting its natural habitat.

This resilient tree is a popular choice for privacy, shade, windbreaks and ornamental purposes.

Just like many species, hybrids and unique variations can emerge naturally, whether from chance seedlings or genetic mutations known as "sports." These remarkable buds are often grafted onto a donor rootstock tree, leading to the stunning array of varieties we see today. You will find many variations! Colorful, weeping, dwarf...the list is huge!
