Birch is a genus of deciduous trees and shrubs known as Betula. Their attributes include thin, usually peeling bark as they mature. They are hardy, fast-growing trees and usually the first to naturalize and grow again after natural disasters or deforestation.
Preferred soil conditions:
Moist, well drained organic soil types. Small amount of sandy or clay soil acceptable.
Although most do well in wet areas, no standing water should remain for lengths of time.
Mulch after planting and water as necessary for the first year and periods of drought thereafter.

River Birch, or Betula nigra, is a remarkable medium-sized tree that is native to the eastern United States. Renowned for its resilience and adaptability , it thrives in a variety of soil conditions, including acidic, wet, well-drained, and clay soils. Heritage ® River Birch (Betula nigra 'Cully')
Also known in the trade as 'Cully' River Birch (discovered by Earl Cully in the 1970's), Heritage ® River Birch is fast-growing and broadly pyramidal. Highly resistant to the bronze birch borer, a wood-boring beetle known to devastate the birch species. Its bark is one of its most standout features, being that its natural peeling reveals its creamy-white to almost peach coloring underneath. Dark, glossy foliage in the Summer gives way to dazzling yellow in the Fall. You will love your Winter landscape with this well-formed tree silhouetting your views!
