Fir trees are a stunning addition to any landscape, belonging to the pine family (Pinaceae) and the genus Abies. With their short, flat evergreen needles and conical shape they offer dense foliage that enhances the beauty of their surroundings. Known for their resilience and adaptability, fir trees are a popular choice for both ornamental and privacy purposes. Found across North and Central America, Europe and Asia, these trees bring a touch of nature's elegance to forests and gardens.

Preferred soil conditions:

Moist, well drained organic soil types. Avoid planting in any clay type soils. These trees can withstand small amounts of sandy soils mixed into a loamy soil. Concolors are somewhat drought tolerant but as with any tree watch closely.

No standing water for lengths of time.

Mulch after planting and water as necessary for the first year and periods of drought thereafter.

However, in Maine, you can expect the tree to grow to about 50 tall. Notable for its long, flat needles and beautiful color variations, the white fir is a stunning addition to any landscape.
